In 980 AD, Yangye achieved a great victory at Yanmen Pass

In March of the fifth year of Taiping Xingguo (980), the Liao Dynasty, in order to avenge the shame of the entire city, ordered Xiao Duli, the military governor, son-in-law, and attendant of Datong Prefecture in the western capital, to lead 100000 troops to kill and rush to Yanmen Pass, launching another large-scale attack on the Song Dynasty. During the Song Dynasty, Yang Ye, the governor of Daizhou and the commander of the Three Communications stationed troops, led hundreds of elite cavalry to bypass the Liao army and flank behind enemy lines. Unexpectedly, they attacked the Liao army from the north entrance of Yanmen Pass towards the south. The Liao army suffered a setback in their research and development, causing a "backyard fire" and sudden chaos. The defenders of Yanmen Pass took advantage of the situation and launched a pincer attack, causing the Liao army to suffer a major defeat and flee. The commander of the Yanmen Pass victory, Yang Ye, originally named Liu Jiye, was a brave general of the Northern Han Dynasty and was known as "invincible". In May of the fourth year of Taiping Xingguo, the Song Dynasty launched an attack on the Northern Han Dynasty. After Liu Jiyuan surrendered the city, Liu Jiye continued to fight hard in the city. Emperor Taizong of Song loved his loyalty and bravery, and wanted to use him. Therefore, he ordered Liu Jiyuan to pacify Liu Jiye. Liu Jiye surrendered and welcomed the Song army in order to protect the people in the city. Emperor Taizong of Song was appointed as the Right Leading General Wei, with the surname Yang and the given name Ye. Later, Yang Ye was appointed as the Defense Commissioner of Zhengzhou. In November, Emperor Taizong of Song appointed the important position of Zhidaizhou and the deployment of troops and horses stationed at the port of San Jiao.
