Yanmen Pass is an important part of the Great Wall, a world cultural heritage site, and a national key cultural relic protection unit. It is the oldest, most frequently contested, most well-known, and widely influential ancient pass, known as the "Number One Pass in China".

Throughout more than 3000 years of history, Yanmen Pass has always been closely related to the fate of the Chinese nation. As a famous throat fortress in ancient northern China, Yanmen Pass witnessed and influenced the historical process of China; As the intersection of Central Plains culture and nomadic culture, Yanmen Pass has experienced the arduous process of national integration and accumulated the colorful essence of multi-ethnic culture; As a famous ancient trade route in Chinese history, Yanmen Pass reflects the rise and fall of ancient border trade and has achieved the glory of Jin merchants.

The Yanmen Pass Scenic Area is a border culture, Great Wall culture, and pass culture tourism area with the historical relics and ruins of the Yanmen Pass military defense system as the main landscape resources. The planned area of the scenic area is 30 square kilometers. The historical architectural remains of different levels, purposes, and shapes, such as Guancheng, Great Wall, Aicheng, Bingbao, and Fenghuotai, have formed the desolate, solemn, majestic, and atmospheric border tourism style of the scenic area. They showcase the functional role and rise and fall of this historic pass, and also tell the story of the vicissitudes of history and the ups and downs witnessed over 3000 years. With the large-scale restoration and development in recent years, the ancient Yanmen Pass has become a border cultural tourism destination that integrates comprehensive functions such as "eating, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment".
